On January 21st, The Air League held a special evening at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation HQ in London, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates to champion clear pathways from education to careers in aviation, aerospace, and space.
Guests heard inspiring speeches from CEO Janine Hornsby, Tony Anderson of easyGroup, and Mohammed Taher (“The Airport Guy”), emphasising collaboration and the importance of positioning aviation as accessible and inclusive.
The highlight of the evening was hearing inspiring words from the keynote address from the Minister of Aviation, Maritime, and Security, Mike Kane MP, who outlined the UK government’s commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive talent pipeline. He emphasised the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for people from all backgrounds to pursue careers in these dynamic sectors. Some key take aways quoted from Mr Kane’s speech:
- “Talent is everywhere. Breaking barriers isn’t just fair—it’s smart politics. Diversity in all its forms drives progress.”
- He continued, “Research shows that children start forming career aspirations by age seven. With early intervention and the right mentors and role models, there’s no limit to what we can help them achieve.”
The Air League extended its gratitude to Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation for their continued support and sponsorship of the evening.
