On Thursday 14 November, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation were delighted to host an evening to celebrate our partnership with the Sea Cadets. Firstly, the evening celebrated a number of young people’s achievements who took part in the ‘On the Water’ programme. After that, we gave out the Champions Awards. That is to say , we are delighted and proud to be working with them on this fantastic programme. For example, the purchase of six RS21 keelboats, one of which was parked outside the Foundation’s headquarters during the evening!
Above all, we are always actively trying to support the work of the Sea Cadets through various donations , partnerships and events. In effect, we donated some of the vessels that are now being used to in their everyday activities!
Most importantly, donations like this help teenagers meet other cadets at events around the UK, and on trips abroad. As a result, they get comfortable with meeting people from backgrounds, and confident in dealing with new situations.
We as an organisation believe in stretching young people to be all they can be. Therefore, help from foundations like ours , covers big things. In other words, their national training centres, boating stations and vessels for all units.
For some cadets, their unit is like their home, where they feel safe. Subsequently, raising money is important in order to give grants to units. In short , it all aims at creating a welcoming physical environment.
